Christian Aid Week 2013

With the number of collectors dropping considerably, over the past couple of years the Community and Mission Group have stopped the door to door collections and replaced it with other fundraising ideas. This has been well received and supported by the congregation.

Most of us have at least two substantial meals a day, while people in countries like Kenya and Zimbabwe will be lucky to have one, yet our planet produces enough food for everyone. It's unfair, it's unjust - and it's totally preventable. The greatest single threat to human life is hunger. By acting together today as a

people of hope, we can make a change for tomorrow. Our contributions will go towards making this happen. This year £979.58 was raised and with gift aid a further £67.50, bringing the total to £1,047.08.

We held a coffee morning at our Christian Aid co-ordinator's house, a cooked breakfast at the parish centre, sold quiz forms, and did a street collection in Kingsley outside the shops opposite the church. At the cooked breakfast, Mandy Loveder, the Regional Manager at Christian Aid East Anglia, gave a presentation on how our money is spent. It was very interesting listening to her and some people took time to speak to her afterwards. The Friday lunch donation before Christian Aid Week was also given to this worthy cause, and the well known red envelope was given out after Mass in church for people to make an added donation if they wanted to - quite a few did.

Please find below a selection of photos taken at the cooked breakfast on Saturday 18 May.
