The party,
organised by the Pastoral Team for those living alone or
in nearby residential or nursing homes, fell on a day
which was teeming with rain, and unfortunately this put
off a number of elderly guests who at the last minute
did not wish to venture out in such weather. Not all
though - some were willing and looking forward to
coming, and were collected by
St Matthew's willing band of helpers or brought by their
own carer.
It was warm and dry inside, with plenty of tea and
sandwiches, homemade cakes and scones to eat, and most
importantly, old friends to catch up with and chat

to. There
are so many in our community even, sometimes, the
relatively fit, who do not get out much and may lack
company. In the past there used to be more activities on
these occasions, but several people commented on how
good it was just to get out, meet up with old friends
and enjoy conversation. The cheerful laughter said it
all!
