Times of Services

St Matthew’s offers a rich variety of opportunities for prayer and worship to nourish and sustain different spiritual needs:

10.15am The Parish Mass
The main act of worship of the community. A sung celebration comprising choral and congregational music. Incense is used. There is a Procession encircling the congregation on principal feast-days.

On the second Sunday of the month the Laying on of Hands and Sacrament of Anointing is offered in the Lady Chapel immediately following Holy Communion in the nave. For more information please see the Healing Ministry page.

A designated family area is provided for those who wish to use it. An All Age Mass is held once a month, normally on the first Sunday. For more information about Sunday activities for children, please see the Families section of this website.

5.30pm Evensong - according to The Book of Common Prayer
First Sunday of the month and on principal feast-days, Choral Evensong with a full choir. Second Sunday of the month is Congregational Evensong. Third Sunday of the month is Choral Evensong followed by Benediction. Fourth and Fifth Sundays of the month are Evensong. Evensong is Choral on principal feast-days. Please see the weekly notices for variations to the regular pattern.

Please note that when the choir is on holiday (coinciding with school holidays and half terms) Choral Evensong is replaced with Congregational Evensong.
