St Matthew’s offers a
rich variety of opportunities for prayer and worship to nourish and
sustain different spiritual needs:
10.15am The Parish Mass
The main act of worship of the community. A sung celebration
comprising choral and congregational music. Incense is used. There
is a Procession encircling the congregation on principal feast-days.
On the second Sunday of the month the Laying on of Hands and
Sacrament of Anointing is offered in the Lady Chapel immediately
following Holy Communion in the nave. For more information please

A designated family area is provided for those who wish to use it.
An All Age Mass is held once a month, normally on the
first Sunday. For more information about Sunday activities for
children, please see the Families
section of this website.
5.30pm Evensong - according to The Book of Common Prayer
First Sunday of the month and on principal feast-days, Choral
Evensong with a full choir. Second Sunday of the month is
Congregational Evensong. Third Sunday of the month is Choral
Evensong followed by Benediction. Fourth and Fifth
Sundays of the month are Evensong. Evensong is Choral on principal
feast-days. Please see the weekly notices for variations to the
regular pattern.
Please note that when
the choir is on holiday (coinciding with school holidays and half
terms) Choral Evensong is replaced with Congregational Evensong.
Weekday Worship
During the winter months of November to March, held in the Parish
Centre. Morning and Evening Prayer are said publicly at 9.00am and
5.30pm daily. The Daily Mass: Unless otherwise indicated Mass is
celebrated in the Lady Chapel, and access is via the North Door
facing Collingwood Road.
As from Monday 6 June 2022 we will revert to our normal
pattern of weekday services.

(The morning Mass may be cancelled. Please refer to the literature
in church for details.)
The Daily Offices
Morning and Evening Prayer are said publicly in Quire at 9.00am and
5.30pm respectively. The Office is led by laity as well as clergy,
and supported by those who attend with varying frequency ranging
from twice daily to occasionally. A hymn is sung at each Office. All
are most welcome to join us.
Access for Morning Prayer is via the North Door facing Collingwood
Road, and for Evening Prayer via the Vestry Door in the south east
corner.
Confession
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, commonly known as 'Confession', is
celebrated in the Lady Chapel by appointment with the clergy. They
are also available for advice and guidance on any matter of concern.
Confession times immediately prior to festivals are as advertised.
All aspects of the Sacrament are in confidence.
The Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the Lady Chapel for the sick
and housebound and as a focus of prayer and devotion. The Holy Oils
are also available.
