The Graham
Sutherland painting Crucifixion is now on loan to
Coventry Cathedral as part of their exhibition ‘Graham
Sutherland: Beneath the Tapestry’. The exhibition runs
from 30 June till 4 August 2018 and is free to visit
during normal Cathedral opening hours.
One of the most significant art works included in Basil
Spence’s design for the New Coventry Cathedral,
consecrated in 1962, was Graham Sutherland’s Christ in
Glory in the Tetramorph. The Cathedral has now brought
together three of Sutherland’s huge preparatory
paintings under one roof, including the final design
from which the tapestry was woven. The exhibition also
includes other private loans (including the St Matthew’s
Northampton painting Crucifixion) to complement this new curation of Sutherland’s work.
The return date of the painting to St Matthew’s is
Tuesday 7 August 2018.
The Director of Music, Thomas Moore, is
looking to recruit BOYS from school year 4
to 7 and GIRLS from school year 5 upwards
who are keen to sing and eager to learn.
