Every July
the choir puts on a light-hearted concert of solos,
choral music and duets selected by the singers
themselves. This is a great opportunity for the singers
to show off their hidden talents, often performing music
that we wouldn’t hear on a Sunday morning including
musical theatre, pop, and instrumental solos. This year,
as with almost everything else, the Chorister Concert
has gone online, and some of the choristers and adults
have submitted videos recorded in their homes.
The choir has now taken a pause for the summer holidays,
but this past term the choristers have been as busy as
ever honing their musical skills. Every week 14 music
lessons have taken place online, with nine choristers
learning the piano, three learning the recorder, and
most having had singing lessons with our singing tutor,
Rhonda Browne.
Although we haven’t been able to sing
together this has been a hugely beneficial time for
building musicianship, and the choristers are grateful
to the Friends of St Matthew’s Music for their support
in enabling learning to continue.
The choir are eager to return to singing together as
soon as we are able, but in the meantime we hope you
enjoy the Virtual 2020 Chorister Concert below.
The
chorister concert is one of our fundraising events where
we aim to sell tickets and refreshments to raise funds
for choir tours. Should you wish to make a donation to
