Here at St Matthew's we are blessed with an array of Uniformed Organisations for young people to attend. On Mondays we have
Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, on Wednesdays we have Rainbows and Brownies and on Thursdays we have Beavers,
Cubs and Scouts. All of these groups meet in the Parish Centre and are run by dedicated groups of volunteers.
For contact details for the group leaders, please contact the Parish Office using the details on the Contact Us part of this website.
We are a multi-age Guiding unit as both Rainbows aged from 5 to 7 years and Brownies aged from 7 to 10 years meet all together on Monday evenings in term time in the Parish Centre, the Rainbows from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and the Brownies from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. This gives the girls a great opportunity to mix with other ages. The girls sing their special songs at the start of the evening (the Rainbows always singing louder than the Brownies!) and they then engage in their separate activities.
Rainbows do lots of crafts and cooking (with adult supervision), play games and generally have lots of fun. They also join in with Brownie badges and go on trips too.
At the meetings Brownies do crafts, play games, and work for lots of badges. The Brownies also go on several trips, including the
pantomime at the local Royal & Derngate theatre, as well as pack holidays and the annual Brownie Hike, learning how to use bus
timetables to catch buses to take us to the start of the hike.
32nd St Matthew's Rainbows and Brownies is a sponsored unit, involved with many of St Matthew's Church events, including
the Summer Fete, the Christmas Fayre and church cleaning mornings. They also take an active part in the monthly All Age Mass.
Girls are strongly encouraged to attend as part of the Church community.
We are 31st St Matthew's Rainbows and we meet every Wednesday during term time between 6.00pm and 7.15pm in the Parish Centre.
Rainbows is for girls aged 5 to 7 years who like fun, games, crafts, and to make some new friends. We work towards
badges, complete challenges and above all, have a brilliant time every time we meet. We even go on special outings! In the summer
we spend our meetings enjoying the sunshine and have our annual trip to Abington Park!
Each week, one lucky Rainbow gets to take home and look after our doll called 'Olivia' for the week and record what adventures
they encounter in her scrap book. Every single girl looks forward to looking after her and it is lovely to see what fun they all
have! Olivia has been to weddings, swimming, the Natural History Museum, shopping, to craft afternoons, baking flapjacks, and of
course is at Rainbow meetings each week and at Church for All Age Masses.
