Walter Hussey (1909-1985) was a prominent Anglican priest and influential arts patron who believed in uniting the Church and artistic excellence.
As Vicar of St Matthew's, Northampton, and later Dean of Chichester Cathedral, he commissioned major works from leading 20th-century artists and
composers such as Britten, Moore, Chagall, and Bernstein. His efforts transformed both institutions into cultural landmarks, leaving a lasting
legacy in British sacred art and music. To mark the 40th anniversary of his death, the Vasari Singers will perform a concert featuring music
he commissioned, with commentary and visuals presented by Sir Richard Stilgoe.
Works by Finzi, Bernstein, Britten and Kenneth Leighton.
A recital in honour of Ron Gates by Director of Music, Tom Moore, featuring music for All Saints, All Souls and Remembrance.

As autumn arrives and November draws near, the Northampton Bach Choir prepares once again to host its annual Remembrance Concert -
an evening dedicated to reflection, remembrance, and the transformative power of music.
This year's programme brings together works that explore the complexity of memory, destiny, and the enduring human spirit. Through
these carefully chosen pieces, the choir invites the audience to pause, reflect, and find solace in shared experience.
Opening the concert is Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, a vivid musical seascape inspired by the rugged Scottish coastline. With its
evocative melodies and atmospheric orchestration, this overture sets a contemplative tone - calling listeners to embark on a journey
through waves of memory and emotion.
Next, Brahms' Song of Destiny (Schicksalslied) offers a meditation on fate and the contrast between human suffering and divine serenity.
Rich in choral and orchestral textures, this profound setting of Hölderlin's poetry moves from celestial calm to passionate turmoil,
ultimately leaving space for hope amidst uncertainty.
The concert concludes with Cecilia McDowall's Da Vinci Requiem. A modern masterpiece, this work weaves together texts from the Latin
Mass with the writings of Leonardo da Vinci, blending ancient ritual with Renaissance curiosity and creativity. Through its luminous
harmonies and poignant reflections, the Da Vinci Requiem offers both a commemoration of those we have lost and a celebration of the
enduring quest for meaning.
As the days grow shorter and we gather to remember, the Northampton Bach Choir's Remembrance Concert provides a space for collective
reflection and renewal. We invite you to join us this November for an evening of music that honours the past, comforts the present,
and inspires hope for the future.
