News & Events - 2024 Summer Fete

Saturday 6 July 2024

This year's Summer Fete started with a bang. Thunder, lightning and torrential rain, to be exact.

But we at St Matthew's don't let Old Testament weather conditions put us off. So we battled on… and won. The rain eventually stopped, the crowds turned up and we raised an amazing £4,000 (give or take a few pounds).

Thanks to everyone who gave their energies, their time and their donations. It was a great family fun day and a chance to show off all we have to offer at St Matthew's.

The police and fire crews proved a big hit, particularly with the children. So did our Noah's Ark Kiddies Trail which encouraged many families into the church itself.

The Northampton and District Model Railway Club were inundated with visitors, the SLT Academy of Irish Dancers brought Celtic sparkle and colour, and the Raggle Taggle Folk Band provided music and merriment.

There was a special display of Kingsley's Fallen Heroes and an organ recital by Philip Bricher.

A barbecue, Ben's bouncy castle, face painting, stalls and games galore kept the crowd happy. So did our beer tent and Danny's weightlifting challenge. Our wonderful Café Guides worked flat out providing tea and mouth-watering refreshments.

Highlight of the afternoon was the chance to soak Father Nicholas with wet sponges in the stocks.
